Advocate

Advocate dog medication is composed of two active ingredients known as imidacloprid and moxidectin. These ingredients are non-carcinogenic, non-mutagenic and non-teratogenic. This medication can be safely applied at the pregnancy. Advocate is recommended for animals such as dogs and cats. This medication contains different level of ingredient for dog as compared to cats. This drug is given to the species depending upon the efficacy and behavior of the drug. This medication is effective while administrated for the treatment particularly the mite infections and GI nematodes. No side effect is shown in this field while treating with this medication. It is successfully applied in rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and rodents but this no proper researched has been done in small mammals.

 

How should I give this medication to my dog?

The dosage of Advocate, also known as Advantage for Dogs should be given as it is suggested by the veterinary doctor. Do not expose Advocate medication in heat, light and moisture and always keep in dry and cool place. Check the direction given in the label of the medication.  Do not skip the medication. Make a regular timing for giving this medicine to the animals. This medication function prior to the achievement of optimal plasma concentration and it will continuously function afterwards which means that it will effectively function for longer duration once it is applied on the animal.

 

What are the possible side effects of this drug on the pet?

There are no major serious side effects of Advocate flea treatment. Studies conducted in cats and dogs show that the oral administration of this medication cause minor side effects such as vomiting, formation saliva while administrated in the cat, anorexia problem in some of the dogs. If this medication is applied directly onto cats or dogs, accidentally there might be a problem to achieve required ingestion. If Advocate drug is applied on more than one area of the infection, the dog can lick the area but it is not that serious a problem as the medication get absorbed within an hour.

What are the necessary precautions?

Do not bathe the animal before the 90 minutes while treating with Advocate (Red) else it will decrease the effect of this medication. Mild grooming with shampoo does not really decrease the effectiveness of this medication but applying of keratolytic or degreasing shampoos may have adverse effects. Do not give this medication to the cat excessively for it will sure lead to sever side effects and could possibly harm the cat.
